Grafoid, leading the graphene revolution

Turns out bulky batteries will become a thing of the past, along with it goes the need for petroleum powered engines to transport people around the world.  Material compounds with become even lighter, stronger and tougher when combined with graphene.  Graphene is ideal for filtration, preventing objects larger than the space between it’s hexagonal structure from passing.  It seems almost too good to be true, but Grafoid claim to have solved the problem of mass production of this new wonder material.

New battery technology to boost range of EVs by up to three times

“Sales of electric vehicles (EVs) nearly doubled in 2013, but most won’t take you farther than 100 miles on one charge. To boost their range toward a tantalizing 300 miles or more, researchers are reporting progress on a “breathing” battery that has the potential to one day replace the lithium-ion technology of today’s EVs. They presented their work at the 247th National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society, the world’s largest scientific society”

Lego looking for eco friendly alternative to ABS

Lego are searching for an alternative, sustainable and eco friendly alternative to ABS (acrilnitrile butadiene styrene).  One leading candidate lies in PLAs (poly lactic acids), but the material will need to embody the low to non shrinkage of ABS in order to allow the brick pieces to attach, in what Lego calls ‘clutching power’.  More information can be found in the article here
