What is Movavi Screen Recorder?
As its name suggests this app helps you to record activities on both your Windows and Mac PC.
Movavi Screen Recorder also has the ability to record screencasts. Capturing screenshotsThere are many useful features, including recording screencasts and grabbing audio and videos from recordings. You can also draw (annotation) onto videos.
After installing, I’m immediately greeted by a widget. The widget is non-intrusive, and it sits on the right side of my screen.
This can be moved to any side of the screen, including top, left, bottom, right and even on top of your taskbar.
You can even place it in the middle of your screen. The widget expands when you click it to show its main features.
Movavi Screen Recorder’s Features
As evidenced by the introduction and the app’s name, the main purpose of Movavi Screen Recorder is to, well, record screens. But there’s more to it than just recording your screen.
Let’s explore the features.
1. Screencasting
Screen Recorder is a screen recording software that is different from other popular screen recorders. LoomMovavi won’t ask you what window, application or monitor you wish to record or screenshot. You can control the recording by moving your mouse around.
If you move the cursor to an outer part of the screen or near the edges, the program will detect that it wants to record the whole screen. Otherwise, it will only capture the window you’re pointing at like on the screenshot above.
If you want a second screen to be recorded, let’s say you have two monitors, just move the cursor on the other screen and start recording.
2. Draw on Videos
Yes, you can doodle while you’re recording which is a feature that I absolutely love. Movavi offers a range of shapes, colors, and lines. I can see that this is a great tool for people who want to express their thoughts visually, especially those who prefer to do so.
3. Simple Editing
When I say simple, it’s really simple. It only allows you to trim videos. Movavi is different from other editors, which allow you to only trim the section you wish to save.
4. Online Meeting Recording
One of the pet peeves of people who hop on Google or Zoom meetings is that when it’s time to record, sometimes the screen recording software they are using only records their own voice and not the other participants. Some recording apps do not record system sounds.
For example, if you are using your AirPods or any other earphones, you will only hear your colleagues through your earphones, but the recorder won’t. Movavi Screen Recorder comes out on top in this case since it is able to do this.
5. Screenshot
The screenshot feature is one of my favorites. It zooms in to the pixel, so you can crop the screenshots and save them accurately. It’s difficult to explain so take a look at the image below.
It will show you where you are down to the pixel. This is a very handy feature. It will also measure the size of whatever window or element you’re currently on. Let me explain:
The screenshot above automatically measures the canvas size.
The screenshot below is a little more detailed. It only measured a single element/box.
I’m not entirely sure how this feature can be utilized, but I can imagine that a lot of creatives out there will find it useful.
Movavi Screen Recorder – Price
Movavi doesn’t have a free version, but the pricing is straightforward and affordable.
You can also find out more about the following: Yearly plan(only annually, no monthly) is $42.95/year. Lifetime planThe cost is $57.95 for a one-time purchase. The cost is only $57.95 one-time. Video Suite PlanThe price is $94.95. Each license can only be used on one computer.
I compared prices to the Japanese Yen (my local currency) and found that if I bought using Yen it would be cheaper.
Here’s the breakdown of the difference in pricing:
- Annual subscription: $42.95 versus 4,200¥ – this only converts to around $32, a $10 difference.
- Lifetime: $57.95 versus 6,000¥ – this converts to around $45, an almost $13 difference.
- Video Suite $94.95 versus 11,900¥ – only a difference of about $5.
If you are considering buying it and you have Wise, buy it in JPY/Yen and you’ll get it for cheaper.
If you’re going to ask why choose Yearly when you can have the Lifetime deal? It sounds cheaper, doesn’t it?
For the Lifetime plan you will only receive the current version. I suppose that future versions of this product will be treated separately? They did mention all plans would get minor updates for free. That’s the huge distinction I can see here. If I’m wrong, Movavi should clarify this on their website.
Movavi: My thoughts
Movavi is an app that allows you to record your screen in full functionality. I think it will be useful for professionals. It is loaded with basically all of the good stuff you’ll need to make your workflow easier. All of the features you’ll need are there.
Movavi offers a variety of options for sharing. You can either upload the recording on their servers or directly to Google Drive. You can also publish it on YouTube.
Unfortunately, Movavi technically doesn’t have a free version. It is only available for 7 days as a trial, and even then it is limited to testing the app, unlike other apps that are free.
As you can clearly see in the screenshot, it has an obvious watermark. You also cannot add descriptions or tags.
Here are the pros and cons of TLDR:
PROS
- App that records screen activity in full functionality.
- The software is loaded with all the features necessary to make work easier.
- Flexible sharing options, including uploading to servers, Google Drive or YouTube, as well as local saving for further editing.
CONS
- No free version. Only a 7-day limited trial.
- Watermark on recordings for the trial period.
- Videos cannot be tagged or described.
Overall, I am interested in using this application. However, I would like to see its full capabilities before I do so.
Wrapping Up
Movavi is an easy-to-use screen recording app that allows you to create high-quality videos for tutorials and demos. Whether you’re a business owner looking to train your employees, a teacher seeking to create online lessons, or a content creator looking to share your knowledge and skills with the world, Movavi has the tools you need to succeed.
Movavi’s intuitive interface, high quality recording capabilities, and extensive editing features make it a great choice for anyone looking for a reliable screen-recorder.
But would I use this? I probably won’t use it because of its pricing and lack of a trial plan to test it properly. But I understand that it has features that other screen recording apps, like Loom, Berrycast, etc., don’t have.
Enjoy your recording!
